Cast of Characters

These are some of the most important characters in Philosophy Bites.
There are some plot spoilers here, but it's not like this comic was
ever really about the plot anyway.

Macaw Calder

Macaw Calder

Just your average high school senior with some
crazy friends, Macaw is the voice of reason in
the group. Somehow, Macaw always manages to get
dragged into everything, probably because he
hangs around with Ress too much. He can always be
counted on when you need a favor - if you don't
mind the occasional sarcastic jab, which really
isn't much to ask for when you consider how much
he has to put up with from the others. Just like
his shirt, Macaw is 'Kool' with whatever comes.
He takes life one zany adventure at a time.

Ress Silks

Ress Silks

Ress Silks is a very complicated young lady.
Ress has an uncanny knack for seeing the big
picture, but a complete inability to see the
small picture. This lack of foresight leads
her to more than her share of unfortunate
situations and zany escapades. Ress is interested
in deep matters such as politics and philosophy,
but always has time for a good prank or joke.
And at other times, she feels compelled to act
like a giggly teenage girl. It's a busy life.

Brett Marsh

Brett Marsh

Brett Marsh rounds out Macaw's posse with his
total devotion to studying and computers.
Brett is the classic nerd, he likes LAN parties,
pizza pockets, video games, classic sci-fi,
and Dungeons and Dragons. He's quite a
compulsive, tending to be extremely involved
in whatever has caught his attention. Of course,
any derisive comments others make about him
merely slide right off, because Brett knows he's
smarter and more cool than everyone else.

Steve

Steve

Steve is the head of the Student Council,
and he's the perfect man for the job - he's
kind, well-liked, and solely interested in
what's best for the school. He also has
school spirit to spare, which puts him at
odds with Ress, who thinks school spirit is
lame and will do whatever it takes to get
the Student Council out of the cafeteria.
Steve is unfazed, however, he just knows he
has to work even harder to make sure people
like Ress have nothing to complain about.

Lintor

Lintor

Lintor is a valiant hero fighting against the
evil Lintian Alliance which threatens all life
with their Lintian Death Ray. At least, that's
what he says if you ask him, which no one ever
does more than once. As far as everyone else is
concerned, Lintor is just a crazy guy who doesn't
wear shoes and yells a lot. Yet perhaps this
crazy shoeless man is the last hope for humanity.
It's a frightening thought.

John Calder

Professor John Calder

John Calder is a professor of ornathology
(he studies birds), so he spends most of
his time in the basement doing research and
caring for his many feathered pets. However,
John is also quite the philosopher, always
willing to give guidance to his son Macaw,
despite the fact that his advice is frequently
misused. Perhaps it's all part of his plan,
because things always seem to work out.

Briget Silks

Bridget Silks

Bridget Silks is the longsuffering mother
of Ress, and the two make quite a pair.
Bridget is divorced, and she worries that
it's the cause of Ress's unusual behaviour
(although there's nothing to indicate that
it's the case), so she takes it upon herself
to make Ress a better person. Only, just
like her daughter, she'd rather do that
through a cunning scheme than through hard
work. Ress never seems to notice though, so
Bridget's schemes just get even more crazy.

Horst Von Reight

Horst Von Reight

Horst is the main reporter and anchorman
for Public Channel 13, a low-budget channel
on cable tv. Together with co-anchor Shu Sok,
and the cameraman who owns their camcorder,
they're the zaniest news team on tv. Still
Horst never gives up, and his unconventional
tactics have gotten him banned from most
political appearances. But it doesn't matter,
because "Public Channel 13 has the highest
determination to budget ratio of any station on TV."
